U.S. Congressman John Duncan offering remarks.
Recently the Knoxville Outpatient Clinic became the William C. Tallent VA Outpatient Clinic in a special naming ceremony for this World War II hero.

U.S. Representative John J. Duncan submitted legislation over a year ago to change the name of the Knoxville Clinic to honor this war hero who has devoted his life to service of Knox County and was a champion for the causes of Veterans.

Mr. Tallent was captured during WWII in the Battle of the Bulge and was a prisoner of war. After several months as a prisoner, he engineered a daring escape and was later awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

Mr. Tallent worked diligently for Veterans' causes over the years, having founded the local Ex-POW chapter in Knoxville and was instrumental in securing a State Veterans Home for Knox County.

Mr. Tallent was Knox County's Commissioner of Finance for 28 years.
